The Prince William County Sheriff's Office was established in 1731 and has grown to its current staff of 73 employees to keep up with this county's increasing population and progress. The Sheriff's Office serves the citizens of Prince William County, the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, and the Towns of Dumfries, Occoquan, Quantico and Haymarket. The Office of the Sheriff holds concurrent law enforcement jurisdiction with local police departments but does not routinely engage in criminal law enforcement.
The mission of the Sheriff's Office is to provide service and security for the Judicial Center, the citizens of Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park and to discharge all obligations mandated by Federal, State and local laws while maintaining professional standards and integrity in public service. Prince William County Sheriff's Office is the first Sheriff's Office in the Commonwealth of Virginia to achieve accreditation through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission.
Sheriff’s office hosts special programs including Sheriff's Office Volunteer Opportunities, Sheriff's Office Intern Program, and Sheriff's Office FREE Gun Lock Safety Program. The Sheriff's Office intern program offers Intern Program to students enrolled in an Administration of Justice Program or law enforcement related program at any college or university and gunlock safety program promotes gun safety by providing complementary safety locks.
